Windsor, Samsung Renewable Energy Announce Deal

City of Windsor

Windsor – June 26, 2014 –

The City of Windsor and Your Quick Gateway (YQG) have reached an agreement with Samsung Renewable Energy on a solar farm to be located on Windsor International Airport lands.

Windsor Solar LP, is planning to engage in a renewable energy project to be located on lands within the Windsor International Airport, which is owned by the City of Windsor and operated by Your Quick Gateway (Windsor) Inc. (YQG), and will occupy 400 acres.

If approved, this Class 3 Solar Facility would have a total maximum name plate capacity of 50 MW. All components will be located within the project boundary area as shown in the attached Notice of Proposal. The lease of 400 acres of unserviced land will be for a period of up to 24 years with an additional total financial benefit to the City of Windsor of $25 million dollars.

“We’re partnering with a world leader in renewable energy on a deal that will contribute millions of dollars to our community. We have carved out 400 acres of land for this specific purpose, leaving suitable acreage available for other purposes.”, said Mayor Eddie Francis.

Samsung is proud to be a part of the Windsor community and excited about our partnership with the City that will create local jobs,” said Steve Cho, Vice President of Samsung C&T Corporation. “Samsung is dedicated to delivering meaningful benefits to communities where we are building clean, renewable energy projects.”

The City will continue to control significant acreage at the airport that can be serviced for future development.
